Farce Onion NZ International Comedy Festival 2024, BATS Theatre 2025, BATS Theatre 2026

After a smash-hit award winning season in the 2024 NZ International Comedy Festival, two return seasons bought PopRox back into the world of Farce Onion; a classic murder mystery spoof where each night a new detective must solve a grisly killing at a luxury location by interviewing a cabal of potential criminals, each with their own version of events to tell. Our latest season featured a mercy kill by way of Hummingbird cake at a Larnach Castle Wedding, an art related murder at the Louvre by the hands of a maniacal Masterton woman, a slaughter at a library opening and an unfortunate death at a jet ski store. Farce Onion showcases PopRox's talent for compelling character work, our flair for the theatrical and our expert storytelling skills. This show features an original theme composed by our own company member Lia Kelly in collaboration with Amy Kelly.

Circa Theatre Residency
2024-2025. Circa Theatre. Wellington
2024 marked the triumphant return of improv to Wellington's professional theatre, Circa. Spanning over two years and dozens of sold out shows we bought our signature format of story-telling improv mixed with crowd pleasing games to over a thousand audience members. Performances began in the restaurant of the theatre, with action happening around the tables of audience members in a cabaret style performance before we moved our shows onto the Circa Two stage. This residency was an immense undertaking over two years which bought in a range of audience members across generations.

A Very PopRox Christmas
BATS Theatre December 2023. The Offering, Greytown 2026.
Our first five-night season told the story of the first Christmas, following Mary and Joseph as they travel to a safe place to birth the messiah. Originally playing as our first PopRox outing at BATS theatre in December 2023, this show is set to return for one night only on July 17th at the New Zealand Festival of Christmas 2026 in Greytown, Wairarapa.
With the almighty Christian God as host of the evening, a tyrannical Herod on the loose, unsolicited advice from three self-appointed 'wise' men, and the audience determining the miraculous conditions of His birth, this show is an irreverent rollick that captures the charming spirit of church nativity plays. One night's Herod was so cruel that he banned the wearing of socks; one very shy baby would only be born when Mary hit the griddy; and Joseph struggled to accept not only the circumstances of his wife's pregnancy, but his new role as a father.
